Video Tutorial: How to Draw Symmetrical Snowflake Patterns in Krita

For the last few months, I’ve been sharing symmetrical snowflake patterns with you. This hobby has turned out to be so relaxing, fun, and surprisingly easy that I wanted to give you the chance to learn how to do it, too.

So I took all the tools, tips and steps I use to create these patterns, and I put them together in a series of bite-size video tutorials and published them on SkillShare.

The class is 41 minutes long, and you can use this link to get an entire month of access for free! Go here to watch my snowflake tutorial.

On top of learning how to create symmetrical snowflakes, you’ll also discover how to sell these patterns as prints and physical merchandise like coffee cups, so you can turn this hobby into an income source if you want to.

I can’t wait to hear what you think of this class, and to see what kind of art you use it to create!

Also, if you know someone who you think would enjoy drawing symmetrical patterns, please share this link with them. I really appreciate it!

Hey guys,

I’ve been a bit quieter than usual lately, so I thought I’d let you know what I’ve been working on that’s been keeping me so busy.

I was invited to teach on a site called SkillShare, where students can access thousands of different courses on a wide variety of topics for a single monthly payment. (Unless, of course, you're one of my students - in which case, I can get you a two-month membership for free.) ;)

I decided to accept the invitation, and this week, I published my new course, Low-Cost Marketing for Small Businesses and Freelancers.
Picture
In it, I explain how to:

1. Choose the target audience that needs you most and is the most likely to buy from you

2. Create an awesome service package that makes you stand out

3. Describe that offer in a way that makes people want to buy it

4. Overcome objections in a way that creates connection and trust instead of feeling pushy or salesy

As a teacher on the site, I’m allowed to do something special for my followers:

I can get you two months of FREE premium access to SkillShare, which includes my course and all the other courses you’d normally have to pay to watch.

Click here to check out my class and sign up.

I don't know how long this promo will last, so if this is something you’d like to take advantage of, please claim your two months of free premium membership right away!

I'm planning to create more classes in the future, including a tutorial for drawing snowflake patterns like the ones I've been publishing lately. If you want to stay updated on my new classes, please follow me on SkillShare.

DeviantArt is hosting an event in which artists send in physical cards, and DA delivers them to patients in hospitals.

If you want to share some holiday cheer with hospitalized patients this year, and earn a one-month Core membership on DeviantArt, you can get the details of the project here.

Here are the card designs I've made so far:

Exciting Updates About "Just Cause" and An Open Art Collab Starring Mettaton

1/5/2018

For those of you who've been reading my Undertale webcomic, Just Cause, or who are thinking of getting into it in the near future, I have some exciting news:

I've gotten enough of the prose version written that I think I've filled in most or all of the possible plot holes, so starting in May, I plan to start releasing parts of the fanfiction to patrons pledging $3 and up on my Patreon.

That means after each comic update, my patrons will get to see a sneak peek of the next scene, weeks before the corresponding comic page comes out.

The whole prose version of the story will be released to the general public once it's complete. I'd do it earlier, but this tale's gotten so intricate that I want to get the whole thing written before I set it loose on the open web, just in case there's still something I've missed.

I've also decided to make the work-in-progress previews of the comic available to ALL my patrons, not just the $10 tier and up.

I wanted to make my most popular story more accessible to people with tighter budgets, so hopefully this helps.

I've also created an open collaboration,
featuring the star of the Underground!

Picture
I've seen a few people doing open collaborations, and I thought it would be fun to do one of my own.

For those who don't know, and open collab is where one artist creates part of a picture - usually the lineart - and invites others to do the rest and share the results. This could include color, shading, backgrounds, or all of the above.

I deliberately left the face off of this one, because I like how ambiguous the pose is. Is Mettaton jumping? Fighting? Posing for the camera? Inviting a dance partner to come join him? Sleeping? Dead? You decide!

If you choose to participate, please:

1. Add your name or URL to the credits on the image

2. Don't remove my URL from the credits

3. Send me a link to the completed picture, so I can show your work to my watchers and followers!

If you want to have the color, background and lineart in separate layers, you can use the .psd file I've attached below.

I look forward to seeing what you create. :)

How to Get More Comments on Your DeviantArt Pictures

15/8/2017

Picture
A little while ago, I stumbled upon a great way to get more comments and exposure for your pictures in DeviantArt. Or perhaps I should say, it stumbled upon me.

I'd left a detailed critique on another artist's picture, commenting on what she'd done well and what could have been done better, and suggesting some photoshop techniques that would help her achieve the effects she seemed to be going for.

Shortly afterward, I was contacted by the admin of Project Comment: a group on DeviantArt that was founded for the purpose of helping artists to get more comments, especially constructive and well-thought-out ones.

She said she'd noticed that I was interested in helping other artists to improve, and invited me to participate in Project Comment.

I was happy to accept the invitation, and after leaving constructive, detailed comments on several other members' pictures, I submitted a couple of my own to be featured in the group.

Sure enough, the comments started coming in, and several people added me to their DeviantWatch.

Now, don't get me wrong - I draw because I love drawing, not just for the attention - but it's so much better when people can see and enjoy my artwork. ^_^

A few days ago, I got another piece of good news: I was being featured in their June-July Features of Great Commenters piece, and I could have one of my pictures displayed in the feature.

I chose my post-Pacifist Undertale wallpaper, and now it's on their features page, second from the bottom.

If you want to get more well-thought-out comments on your artwork, and you're interested in helping other artists to improve their skills, I invite you to check out the group, and to join it if it looks like something you'll enjoy.

Get Your Name Featured in the Credits of "Catgirl Roommate"

30/8/2016

Picture
Great news, Fiction Fans! I just completed the first round of editing on Catgirl Roommate (again), and I plan to have the book completed and published by the end of the year!

The cover art is also coming nicely, and I look forward to sharing the finished product with you.

Also, as the title of this blog post mentioned, you now have a chance to get your name featured in the credits of Catgirl Roommate once it's published!

How do you get your name featured?

From today until the first day of December, everyone who pledges $1 or more on my Patreon channel will get a special place in Catgirl Roommate's credits.

Why am I doing this?
After the end of a work day, I often stay up past 2:00 a.m. writing novels and fanfiction, creating fan art, crafting lyrics, and combining clips and music into music videos.

(Yeah, I know. It's not exactly a smart schedule. But what can I say? I obsess.)

I want to spend more time creating fun content for you, and for that, I need your help.

After all, creating content takes time - as does running my other business - and the less time I have to spend doing other things to pay my bills, the more I can spend writing, drawing, singing and video-editing for you!

Right now, my main fandoms are Undertale, Farscape, Puella Magi Madoka Magica, and my own novels. So if you loved those stories and want more, and if you'd like to get some cool rewards in return for your help, I hope you'll consider supporting my work!

Patrons of my channel will receive advance viewing of my content, as well as a variety of other goodies. Click the button below to visit my page, and check out the rewards column on the right to see what's available to you!

Don't want your name featured?

If you want to support me, but you don't want your name to be featured, that's fine!

After pledging, just send me a PM on Facebook or Twitter, tell me what your Patreon username is, and let me know that you don't want your name to be included in the credits.

Want to have a different name featured?

If you want your name in the credits to be different from your Patreon username, please let me know.

Or, if you want to do something special for a friend, you could ask me to feature their name instead of yours (if you have their permission).

Are there any rules about the featured names?

Just two:

1. If you make a pledge, and then withdraw it without paying, your name will not be featured. Pledge-dodgers don't get to be in credit sections. ;)

2. If you choose to have a pseudonym featured, it must not be anything vulgar, offensive, obscene, or abusive.

Ready to get started?

Just click the button below, then once you're on the page, hit the orange "Become a patron" button in the upper right corner.

Great News About Catgirl Roommate

I'm happy to announce that the first round of editing on Catgirl Roommate is complete! :) If things go according to schedule, the final round of editing should be done within two months.

If you want to get a sneak peek into the novel, you can download a free excerpt by clicking the button below:

As I get near the end of the writing and editing stage, now I have to consider what kind of cover I want. I've been thinking of various funny scenarios the cover could portray - I want something that shows Sam's and Nyla's personalities, while giving an at-a-glance peek into the comical chaos that the Sam's life has become.

I'll probably upload some concept art in the near future, so hopefully I'll be able to get your feedback on which cover you like best.

In the meantime, enjoy your free excerpt! And if you want to pre-order your copy of Catgirl Roommate at half price, you can do so by clicking the link below:
