Two Symmetrical Patterns: Silver and Sapphires, and Golden Sky Symbol

10/12/2019

For the past few weeks, I've mostly done fast, simple symmetrical patterns. When I'm creating a drawing montage, I pick a brush size and color and stick with it, mostly avoid the "undo" button, and just let the shapes evolve as I draw instead of having a specific goal in mind.

This time, I wanted to draw something more specific and complex, with more differences in color and texture, and the result was two patterns and a huge contrast.

Silver and Sapphires

Picture
This image started with a general concept of what I wanted the main central spokes to look like, then from there it was a matter of experimenting to see what looked and felt right.

In a way, it reminds me of "Starry JewelVine", one of the first symmetrical patterns I drew, in that it has wires of a metallic color enclosing gem-like patches of jewel tones. "Silver and Sapphires" is definitely more polished, and I'm proud of the progress I've made.

Here's the older pattern, so you can see the difference:

Golden Sky Symbol

The second pattern was inspired by the odd combination of the magic from Dr. Strange and a facial tissue box. The latter was covered in blotches of pink, blue and purple in the background, with many-spoked golden wheels in the foreground.

That pattern made me want to try creating a cleaner-looking, more complex version of it, while the 2016 Dr. Strange movie gave me the idea of adding symbols between the spokes.

Here is the result:
Picture
Definitely a contrast to the muted elegance of "Silver and Sapphires"!

When I showed this pattern to my mother, she commented that its background looked like something she'd like on a dress. So I thought "Hey, why not upload that as well?"

In the process of uploading it to RedBubble, I encountered one small problem: a cutout of the background pattern with no additional adornment didn't look very good on T-shirts. So I created this for the products that just have the artwork on one small part of them, such as the chest, instead of being completely covered in it:

Speaking of physical objects, here's what "Silver and Sapphires" looks like on them:

Soothing Snowflake-Drawing Montage: Dark Jungle Gems

3/12/2019

For this art montage, I used four dendrites - the lowest number I've ever experimented with for a snowflake-like pattern - and music that I thought had a spacey/jungle feel to it.

You can watch the video here:
Speaking of music, here are the music credits:

After drawing the snowflakes, I put them together to make this:
