Since I was visiting them again this week, I decided that this time, I'd have a pattern ready just for Grandpa. Unfortunately, Google search gave me multiple different answers when I asked it what forest green looks like, so this turned out to be a little too light, but he was still happy with it.
The shape was inspired by a piece of advice I got from a fellow member of ProjectComment, who suggested that I try using fractals in one of my snowflakes. I'm still a bit unclear as to what constitutes a fractal - a core principle seems to be the same shape repeating itself at ever-smaller scales - but I THINK I made one.
This pattern was deliberately designed to look good when tiled; here's an example of what that looks like:
